UNDATED -- There is an important consumer alert tonight. Chrysler has agreed to recall more than two million Jeeps.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had given Chrysler until today to comply with the recall. The company had originally refused, claiming the vehicles were safe.
The Jeep models affected are 2002 to 2007 Jeep Liberties and 1993 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees.
The government says the gas tanks could rupture if hit from the rear, adding 51 people have died in fiery crashes.
Chrysler claims their conclusions were based on flawed data, but Chrysler said dealers will inspect the vehicles and upgrade the rear structure if necessary.
