WASHINGTON D.C. -- It's been one week since the whistle-blower, who some call a traitor, leaked details of the government storing data on our phone calls and emails.
Today on Capitol Hill, the Director of the National Security Agency General Keith Alexander told the House Intelligence Committee that NSA surveillance programs, under the Patriot Act, are keeping our country safe.
Alexander explains, "in recent years, these programs, together with other intelligence, have protected the U.S. and our allies from terrorist threats across the globe to include helping prevent the potential terrorist events over 50 times since 9/11."
President Obama is also now defending his expansion of programs, which he once attacked, calling for a "public discussion" on how to balance security and privacy rights.
