TIPP CITY -- A restaurant server faces a fourth degree felony after police say she stole $11,000 from Harrison's restaurant in Tipp City over the span of two years.

Police say the former employee:  Kimberly Wheelock would take your cash put it in her pocket and register your transaction as a gift certificate so that way the computer would balance at the end of the night.

Wheelock wasn't home when we knocked on her door, but she will soon have to the $11,000 police say she stole.

"That's a lot of money you would think somebody at some point would have said wait a minute," said Terrance Randolph of Tipp City.

"It's upsetting because we like this is establishment because of the food and because of the service and that puts the establishment at risk for going under because somebody else wanted to pocket the money for their selves," Troy resident Jenn Myers said.

Harrison's owner who happens to be an accountant finally realized the shortcomings and fired Wheeler in June.

"The economy always contributes to this kind of stuff but it is when opportunity interacts with bad choices," said Tipp City police detective Chris Graham. "Everyone has the opportunity but not everyone makes the best choice."

Tipp City business owner Terri Bessler says she knows how hard it can be to keep honest employees.

"It's unfortunate that no matter how hard you try people will still come up with creative ways and continue to be deceitful," she said. "If they want to all you can do is react and try to prevent things but there's no way to prevent everything no matter how hard you try."

And now customers say every time they eat at any restaurant, they have to wonder.

"You're going to think about it as a human being to say is this happening right now with my transaction," said Randolph. "You don't really think about it in a nice little town like this I'm still kind of blown away by it."

"Kim Wheelock is not currently in police custody but it scheduled to appear in court December 28.

Here's what the owners of Harrison's had to say:
"This was an isolated occurrence . We felt a responsibility to the public to take legal action. We look forward to providing service to the Tipp City/ Dayton area for years to come."
