EL PASO COUNTY, Co. -- Firefighters are working feverishly to put out fast-moving wildfires in Colorado.
Thousands of people have been forced out of their homes.
Crews say the record high temperatures and strong winds are no help as they struggle to get the Black Forest fire under control.
So far, thousands of acres have been destroyed.
El Paso County's Sheriff Terry Maketa explains, "the priorities are saving lives, protecting the firefighters and first responders and then property."
National Guard troops and helicopters are now on the scene.
It could be days before the area is safe for people to return.
