Springboro -- A woman is speaking out after nearly being carjacked outside of a Springboro Kroger.
The 22 year old woman of Carlisle had just come outside to put her groceries into her car when she noticed a jack of hearts playing card strategically tucked into her back windshield wiper.
"It was like tucked in between my windshield wiper so I grabbed it and looked around. I didn't see anybody suspicious," she said.
She grabbed the card, quickly looked around and then proceeded to load in her groceries. The woman was very careful to lock her door. She immediately drove away but soon noticed that there was a suspicious car following her very closely with their brights on.
"At some point, the driver even flashed their lights and yelled something that sounded like you have a flat tire," she said.
The young woman suspected that that was a tactic to get her to stop her car, but she continued driving. She continued to be followed through Springboro, Franklin and Carlisle. Luckily, she was able to pass by three police officers, and the suspicious car turned around.
"Fortunately she was smart enough not to stop so year think I'd be on my cell phone at that point dialing 911," said Debbie Owens of Middletown.
As soon as the woman got home she posted on Facebook about her experience in the hopes of encouraging other women to watch their surroundings wherever they go.
âIt could happen to anyone at any time. If someone is following you, do not go home, keep driving and call the police.â said the woman.
Police Chief Jeffrey Kruithoff of Springboro confirmed they've had a few similar incidents at that same Kroger store but haven't been able to track down who's responsible. Chief Kruithoff has some tips for anybody who finds themselves in a similar situation, âBe aware of your surroundings; try to walk out with someone. Make sure you notify police immediately.â
Police later informed the woman that the card may have been a distraction to get her out of her car for a possible carjacking, and that other woman have been followed from the store to the parking lot recently. She feels a great deal safer knowing that she had her gun on her at the time.
âIf you don't have your CCW, I highly suggest you get on that. If I didn't have mine, I would have been a lot more scared than what I was,â she stressed.
