Man Faces OVI, Child Endagering Charges After Near Crash with Deputy

SPRINGFIELD -- A man is accused of driving drunk with a 12-year-old child in the car and a woman at the scene of the arrest is accused of tampering with evidence after trying to remove beer cans from the vehicle.

Buddy Brown, 65, of Springfield is charged with OVI after deputies said his Chevrolet S-10 almost crashed into a deputy's patrol car, and then he failed a field sobriety test. Later, Brown blew a .109 BAC on a breathalyzer.

Deputies said Melissa Slone approached the vehicle from her home during the investigation of Brown's OVI charge and began removing beer cans from the pickup truck. Slone originally claimed to have brought the beers from her home, when she heard Brown had been stopped.

Deputies refuted her story, however, saying they watched her approach.

Slone was charged with tampering with evidence. Brown also was charged with child endangering because of the 12-year-old child being in the car.

Both Slone and Brown were transported to the Clark County Jail.
