Dayton Police Investigation: UD Student's Death a Suicide

DAYTON -- The Dayton Police Department today released its determination into University of Dayton student Larry Cook's April 2 death.

A Dayton Police and Montgomery County Coroner's Office investigation determined Cook's death was the result of a suicide after leaping from a sixth floor window of Stuart Hall on the UD campus.

"During the course of the investigation, several concerns were expressed to investigators that the death was the result of something other than a suicide. Our investigation has shown that Mr. Cook’s death was not the result of an accident, hazing, or a criminal act," the Dayton Police statement reads. "A thorough review of all the evidence and information obtained through the investigation supports the Coroner’s conclusion that Larry Cook’s death was the result of suicide."

Cook's family had refuted the claims by school police that Larry would have committed suicide. They hired an outside investigator and pressed the Dayton Police Department to get involved in its own investigation.
