Suspect Caught Selling Stolen Metal

CLARK COUNTY -- The sheriff's office received a call on May 13 regarding a possible theft and damage at the FirstEnergy Ohio Edison plant.

Deputies reported someone had stolen over 200 feet of copper wire off  power plant equipment, which is fenced in with barbed wire.

During the theft, several thousands of dollars worth of equipment was damaged.

During the investigation, a detective was checking Staker Alloys and found information that suspects had cashed in the stolen copper.

The detective later apprehended the suspect at Staker Alloy on May 21 while the suspect was attempting to cash in more metal.

A second suspect fled the scene, leaving behind his ID.

Jamie Back was arrested for Felony Receiving Stolen Property and an active warrant for a Parole Violation.

The second suspect has been identified as Dustin Back and, pending DNA results, he will also be charged.

The value of the stolen copper is over $600.00 and the repairs exceed $2,000.
