VANDALIA -- A Vandalia man is out on bond after being accused of molesting a teenaged girl.
50-year-old Steven Rohde has been charged with two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and 8 counts of sexual imposition.
According to the police report, on numerous occasions he touched the young girl inappropriately and would text her, asking her out on a date.
"I'd probably have to take matters into my own hands and I'd probably be behind bars," said Jeremiah Shupert, a concerned parent.
Shupert watches his young kids play at a playground in their quiet Vandalia neighborhood, and just blocks away lives a man accused of molesting a 15-year-old girl.
"I would never think anything like that out of this neighborhood but it's kind of upper end so you would never think any kind of people would be like that in this neighborhood," said Shupert said. "That's kind of sick and inappropriate for someone of that age and someone that young of age to be doing that with someone.
We caught up with Rohde at his home to ask him about the accusations.
"Oh, you're the news," Rohde says, "Yeah, OK I'm gonna pass, thanks anyway."
Concerned parent Jaaseil Shupert says, "just to think that there's somebody like that that could be living right next door to you, words can't describe it."
While describing how they would feel is difficult, it is easy for parents to want to shelter their kids.
"No matter what you do you can't always protect your kids but you try to keep a close eye on them no matter what," said Jaaseil.
Rohde is expected in court Tuesday morning.
