SPRINGFIELD -- Police are looking for a man they say tried to lure a 12-year-old girl into his car.
It happened in the parking lot of Target on West First Street in Springfield.
According to the police report, the man asked the girl to get into his car, and she refused.
At that point, the girl's father walked out of Target and saw his daughter was upset.
She told him what happened, and he confronted the man in the parking lot.
The suspect reportedly told the father that he didn't try anything, and took off in his car.
The father then jumped in his vehicle and started chasing the man, who eventually got away.
Parents we spoke to say they can relate.
"If someone was trying to get my daughter, I'd do the same thing, chase him down," said Stephen Scott of Springfield.
Police are looking for a red Mercury Mountaineer with license plate number "DEA49."
The girl says the man was 55 to 60 years old, had white or gray hair and a large nose.
If you recognize the man or his vehicle, call police immediately.
