HUBER HEIGHTS -- There was good news and bad news Thursday night at the Huber Heights school board meeting.  While the board voted to cut nearly three dozen positions, it was announced that the ROTC program will be saved.

After the initials cheers, there were tears of joy from some of the ROTC participants.  The program was on the chopping block for the cash strapped district, but now it will be funded for another year.  The program was saved by donations from the community and help from the city.

ROTC members like, Rebecca Goerling, couldn't be happier or more grateful, ''I think everyone is going to be in a great mood, everyone is going to be ready to work hard again and we have a picnic planned for after school and that's going to be even more fun now that we have an entire year to look forward to.''

But there was a tough part of tonight's meeting too.  The school board did decide to cut 34 paraprofessional positions and one clerical position.

The Huber Heights district is in financial straits from past failed levies.  The district will have another levy on the ballot in August.
