MONTGOMERY COUNTY -- The hot and heavy affair you've been watching on TV in the hit drama ''Scandal'' may happen more often than you may think in real life. "Scandal's" central character Olivia Pope develops an intimate relationship with a married man who also happens to be the President of the United States. The small screen affair is pretty high profile, but relationship expert, Dr. Bruce Kline, says the premise is all too common.
"I think the biggest thing is the accessibility that comes as a result of technology. Social media, for all the positive things it can be used for, also creates a lot of accessibility for misuse," he said.
From Facebook, to Twitter, to websites built specifically for cheaters, anyone with a wondering eye can easily set up a secret date with a few clicks of the mouse. And men aren't the dirty dogs in this game, new reseach shows half of all cheaters are women!
"In the old days we would trail somebody or hire a private investigator, you don't have to do that these days. Look on social media, it's all there," Dr. Kline said.
Aside from snooping, if you want to know whether your spouse is cheating, look for extreme changes in behavior, mood and affection toward you. Dr. Kline says patterns of dress may change, like dressing up more, wearing sexier clothes and possibly buying lingerie.
"Being a little more focused on themselves. An all about me kind of experience," Kline said.
A sharp decrease in transparency within the relationship and an increased need for privacy should also be red flags.
