BELLBROOK--The city of Bellbrook and Sugarcreek Township are looking at ways to save money and, eliminating their dispatch centers may be in the future.
City leaders said the best answer is to hand over duties to the Greene County Central Dispatch Center.
Leaders said the move would save money but it would also cut jobs.
Combined, the move would save the communities over one million dollars over the next 5 years.
The change would also cut 12 jobs. Why the change now? City leaders said the state of Ohio is mandating a new expensive radio system by the end of this year.
It's a costly new system, so many agencies are looking for ways to save money by combining dispatch centers.
Both communities said citizen safety and response time would not be affected by the move.
"You always have concerns when there is a transition, to a new service, but it think over time, we are confident they can provide the same quality of service
that were getting today." Bellbrook City Manager Mark Schlagheck said.
If approved, the Greene County Central Dispatch Center would need to hire at least 4 positions, so hopefully not all
dispatchers would lose their jobs.
Bellbrook City Council is asking for public input on the change at their next meeting on May 13.
The city could vote on this move June 10.
