DAYTON -- In the past year, 46 people have been murdered in Montgomery County.
Monday night, families of all those who have lost someone to a homicide gathered at the Westminster Presbyterian Church to honor them.
This is the 22nd year for the Homicide Victim Memorial Service.
While homicides are down this year, the Montgomery County Prosecutors Office says the numbers are still too high.
"Each one of these homicide victims have a family, have loved ones they've left behind," Montgomery Co. Prosecutor Matt Heck said. "They needlessly lost their lives to violence."
The memorial service is held every year around this time because of how hard it can be on the families during the holidays.
