Miami Township Police Levy

MIAMI TOWNSHIP -- The Miami Twp. Police levy has passed.  With 100% of the precincts reporting, it passed by a vote of 56% to 44

This was the second time they had a levy on the ballot.

The first, 5.0 mill levy failed in November, which forced them to put another levy on the ballot.

If the levy didn't pass Tuesday night, Chief Krug would have been forced to make a tough decision.

He would have started cutting his staff. Right now, they have 35 people employed, and he tells us he would have had to cut half of those positions, but because the levy passed, they can keep their jobs. And that makes the chief happy.

"The approval of this levy shows the support that a good majority of the citizens have for the police department, and i would like to thank them for approving this levy," said Chief Chris Krug, Miami Township Police Department.

The levy will generate about $3 million dollars.
