COLUMBUS -- A handful of women gathered today outside Sen. Rob Portman's Columbus office to protest his opposition to recent gun control legislation.

The so-called "Stroller Jam" event was organized by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Members of the organization's Columbus chapter are saying shame on Portman, who is a Republican, for voting against the will of 83 percent of Ohioans who favor expanding background checks.

"Senator Rob Portman voted against the bipartisan background checks amendment proposed by Senators Manchin and Toomey," said Julie Eichorn, co-leader of the Columbus Chapter of Moms Demand Action. "Moms want Senator Portman to know that his vote was shameful and we expect him to put the safety of our children first."

The group also praised Democrat Sen. Sherrod Brown for voting in favor of the legislation.
