CINCINNATI (AP) -- The hundreds who turned out for a public hearing on the controversial Cincinnati streetcar project still didn't hear how the city plans to pay for all of it.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that none of the city officials at the Monday night meeting explained how the additional costs of the now $133 million project will be covered.

City Manager Milton Dohoney said it will have to be piecemeal funding and wouldn't all come from one source.

Dohoney said the accepted bid for the project has expired, although the developer is still willing to work with the city.

He said if the city scraps the project, it would lose $19.7 million in money already spent and $14 million more to close out the contracts already signed.

Hearing Called on Cincinnati Streetcar Project

CINCINNATI (AP) -- A Cincinnati city official has called a public hearing to get some answers about the troubled downtown streetcar project.

Vice Mayor Roxanne Qualls planned the hearing for Monday night to get an update on the status of the much-delayed project.

WCPO-TV reports that Qualls is asking the city administration to explain both the full costs of moving forward with the project and what it would cost the city if the project was scrapped.

The city manager announced in a memo earlier this month that construction bids were millions higher than expected. He also said that if construction doesn't start soon, the project might have to be re-bid.

The price tag for the streetcar and 3.6-mile track is already estimated at $133 million.
