Apartment Fire Sends Woman to Hospital

DAYTON - A morning fire gave tenants at an apartment complex on Xenia Avenue an unwelcome wake-up call.

Firefighters say of the four units, only one of them caught fire and is now unlivable thanks to the damage caused by the fire.

While all the residents made it out of the burning building, one woman was sent to the hospital.  It was her apartment that initially caught fire.  Neighbors say she’d only lived at the apartment for a few days.

“Fires happen everyday, whether you’ve lived in your house for years or maybe if you’re a new tenant” said Capt. Merritt Colton, Dayton Fire Department.

The woman’s identity and condition hasn’t been released.  Red Cross is assisting the displaced woman and other residents at the apartment who were fortunate to return to their units, which remained relatively unscathed.
