SPRINGFIELD -- A woman is accused of stabbing a man using a screwdriver in the bedroom.
Springfield Police said they were called out to the stabbing and found Kelly Merchant bleeding profusely on the front porch of 207 S. Race Street. Lacrelle Gilbreath also was on the porch, reportedly yelling that she didn't mean to do it.
Gilbreath, 31, has been charged with felonious assault and taken to the Clark County Jail.
Police say she told them that Merchant had come home drunk about 7 p.m. Wednesday and they began to argue. At one point, she told police he poked her in the eye and she defensively reached out with a screwdriver that was in her hand.
Police say the screwdriver penetrated Merchant's flesh in the chest/collarbone area and left a small puncture wound.
She told police she had been replacing a door knob when the argument began.
A medical official at Springfield Regional Medical Center later said they were treating Merchant for a possible collapsed lung.
Police said Merchant was uncooperative when he was interviewed by police. They didn't describe the type of relationship the victim and suspect had but witnesses said the two argue every night.
