CELINA -- It's been a year, and it seems 'Brutus' is making a big difference at Grand Lake St. Marys. 'Brutus' is a 57-ton dredge used to remove sediment from the lake.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources says they removed a record 289,000 cubic yards from the lake last year using the three dredges, including 'Brutus'. The 289,000 cubic yards bests the established goal of 270,000.
The sediment feeds the toxic algae blooms that has polluted the lake for the past several years.
