UPDATE: Man Suspected of Fatal Shooting of Grandson Released, Not Charged

FAIRBORN -- The man who is suspected of shooting his 20-year-old grandson has been released by Fairborn Police and has not been charged.

Oakhill Avenue residents called police saying a man, later identified by neighbors as James Johnson, asked them to call police because he just shot his grandson, later identified Brandon Spencer.

Police responded and said they found Spencer dead from a gunshot wound at 1157 Oakhill Avenue. They took the man, who police are not identifying, to the police department for questioning.

"The resident is cooperating with the investigation and has been released without any charges," a police statement reads. "The investigation is continuing to determine the circumstances which led up to the shooting."

Police said it might be several days before a decision is made whether charges will be filed, based upon results of the autopsy and evidence collected at the scene.
