DAYTON--Police are on the lookout for a man who tried to kidnap a
14- year-old girl on her way to school .
8th grader Mykendra Howard said about 7:30 Thursday morning she was walking near the intersection of Lakeview and Groveland when a car pulled up and a man tried to get her in his car.
"He was driving real slow behind me and he stopped his car, and he said get in." The teen said.
Mykendra said when the guy got out of his car, and moved towards her, she took off running and ran all the way to Wogaman School and told her teacher.
Kendra Carriker has been giving her daughter extra hugs since the incident. "She is very shaken and she's very scared." The mother said.
"But I am very proud of her. She did exactly what she was taught to do.
I'm thankful to God she make it to school."
Mykenda said the car is a newer model, black Chevy Impala with orange striping down the side of the car.
Carriker wants parents to be on the lookout .
"We need to inform our kids, you cant trust anybody. There are a lot of predators out here prowling on our daughters, and our sons."
Mykendra said she is never walking alone again, and wants to give some advice to her friends.
"Just be careful. If someone asks you to get in their car, just do what I did, and run."
Mykenda said the man who tried to kidnap her is
a tall white man, about 6 feet tall, about 40 years old with short brown hair and a goatee.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 333-COPS.
