Men in Fatal Crash Were Wanted for Recent Crime

MONTGOMERY COUNTY -- Miami Township Police said the car involved in last night's deadly chase was wanted in connection with a criminal investigation.

Police said a crime occurred shortly before the crash, and police were looking for the white Impala.

Police are releasing few details about the initial crime, but said officers tried to pull over the white Impala, but the driver wouldn't stop.

Phillip Lane, 23, and Erik Sanford, 24, were killed in the crash. A third male in the white car, a teen, was also taken to the hospital with injuries.

Witnesses said the white car was traveling about 100 mph when it crashed into another car on 741 near Cobblegate Drive.

"I saw the white car go flying, with a bunch of cops following it." Lindsey Breitenstein said.

The woman in the other vehicle was taken by helicopter to the hospital  with serious injuries. Her name is not being released.

"I am hurting," said Michelle Vaughn, who is Lane's cousin.

Vaughn said she wishes she could give her cousin some advice that could've changed the deadly outcome.

"It's not worth it. Just pull over. You are risking your own life, you are risking other people's lives. There could've been kids involved in this accident. It's not worth it, just pull over."

Vaughn and her family left balloons on the side of SR 741 near the crash site.
