DAYTON -- A big day for the Dayton Dragons. It's opening day for the team and a big announcement that the team is up for sale. Fans big and small are excited to see their hometown team play and hope even if their sold they'll continue to play right here in Dayton.
The news that the team was up for sale came out Friday morning and we immediately spoke to the team's President, Bob Murphy. He assures us the sale would not affect the Dragons at all, saying the holding company Mandalay Baseball Properties, is being sold.
That particular company owns four others teams as well. He says there are no plans to take the Dragons out of Dayton, and fans we spoke to say if that happened, it would only hurt the local economy.
"It brings people into downtown, we're gonna go out to dinner at one of the local area restaurants so you would hurt that," said Brad Logan, "You would hurt the people who sell concessions e pele who park the cars these are things that are critical to keeping Dayton's identity alive."
The Dragons President also told us that a similar transaction happened in 2007, and that had no effect on the team. He also tells us the team has a long-term contract with with the City of Dayton.
