DAYTON -- The doctor of a Dayton girl, who died weighing only 28-pounds, has been found guilty for her role in the girl's death.
Margaret Edwards was 14-year old Makayla Norman's doctor. Norman, who suffered from cerebral palsy, died in 2011. Edwards was responsible for Norman's care and treatment, as well as inspect the living conditions inside the home.
Today, Edwards was found guilty on three counts of failing to report child abuse or neglect. She could also lose her medical license.
The victim's mother, Angela Norman, previously pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter as well as two counts of child endangering. She was sentenced to 9 years in prison.
Makayla's nurse, Mollie Parsons pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter, failing to provide for a functionally impaired person, and tampering with records. She was sentenced to ten years in prison. Two other nurses were also charged, Kathryn Williams and Mary Kilby. They were both convicted of failing to provide a functionally impaired person and were each given 5 years of community control sanctions. All of the nurses had to surrender their nursing licenses and can never treat patients again.
