Dayton Considers Revoking Liquor Licenses for Area Clubs

DAYTON -- It was a packed house as Dayton City Commissioners heard from their attorney recommendations to revoke liquor licenses for four area bars and clubs in Dayton.

There are 700 liquor licenses currently approved in Dayton. Dayton commissioners say they consider a number of factors before they vote to object an establishment's liquor license. It's a case by case basis but commissioners say they do factor in police recommendations and the number of crimes happening inside and outside the bar.

"We collect evidence from police, residents neighborhood associations and review them every year, ultimately it's the state's decision," said Shanon Potts, City Law Department.

The clubs in jeopardy of losing their licenses are The Vault, Club Aquarius, Webster Station and Loch Nez.

"I have to have income, we obey the liquor laws, it's a 25 and up club, dress code enforced, we haven't had any problems, I was angry and shocked when I saw that notice on the door," said Wayne Kelly, owner of Club Aquarius and Stage Door.

Reporter Annette Peagler spoke to Dayton commissioners and club owners about the recommendations. She will have their reaction today on ABC 22 at 6:00 p.m. and FOX 45 at 6:30 p.m.
