DAYTON -- A man is in critical condition after an attempted robbery takes a violent turn.
It happened just after 3:00 Wednesday morning on Neal Avenue. Police say three people walked up to a second floor apartment, knocked on the door and then forced their way inside.
At some point shots were fired and a man inside the apartment was hit three times. The apartment belongs to the victim's mother. Police say she runs a snack shop out of her apartment. They think money from her business was the motive for the crime.
Police do not think the suspects got away with anything; they took off on foot. Police say the suspects include two men and a woman. The K-9 unit was called in to track the suspects, but it was not successful.
Right now, police have three people in custody and homicide detectives have been called to take over the case, which is standard procedure when a potentially deadly crime is being investigated.
