TROTWOOD -- Pets being stolen from families right from their yards and often times being used as dog bait in dog fighting.
Mark Kump with the Montgomery County Resource Center says it happens more often than you'd think.
"It is common to see other dogs stolen and used as bait dogs or victims to blood fighting," he said.
A Trotwood woman is on a desperate search for her two pets. Brutus is a seven-year-old Mastiff and Polar is a six-year-old Great Pyrenees.
Bechtel says snow had fallen that day, and the fresh snow left evidence that the gate had been opened and shut. She says following out of her yard, she could see paw prints and foot prints that headed down a bike trail behind their home.
"Never leave any dog unattended in your back yard or vehicle," said Kump.
Also, if someone admires your pet and asks about them, never tell them how much you paid or any other small details.
And, keep your dogs on a leash, so they don't run off and end up in the hands of a thief.
It's not clear if Betchel's babies were stolen for dog fighting, but she fears it could be a possibility.
She also says someone could have planned on reselling them.
If you have any information on the two dogs, contact the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center at 898-4457.
