Dayton Man Arrested While Detective Monitoring for Prostitution

DAYTON -- A Dayton man was arrested for public indecency Tuesday afternoon after police detectives said they saw a woman and the man engaged in a sex act.

A detective said he was monitoring for prostitution activity on East Third Street when a man -- later identified as Nathan Zechar of 331 Illinois Ave., Dayton -- pulled up in a 2012 Honda Civic and engaged in conversation with a suspected prostitute along East Third Street.

A detective said the woman got in the car, which then drove away. The detectives followed the Civic to Ringgold Street, where they reported that he observed the woman performing the sex act.

The detectives said they followed the car and attempted to stop Zechar but he fled.

The detectives investigated the ownership of the vehicle, which turned out to be the suspect's parents, who live in Clayton.

The detectives tracked Zechar to his Illinois Avenue residence, where he at first denied knowledge of the events in a phone call but, after a detective arrived at his residence, Zechar reportedly surrendered without incident.

The detectives say they have had previous run-ins with Zechar for similar crimes, including an incident in 2010 where he was allegedly attempted to pick up an undercover officer posing as a prostitute.

"Even though Zechar is not charged with prostitution-related offenses, the Dayton Police Department requests Zechar be sent to (prostitution diversion) school and be given an HIV test," the police report reads.
