Health Care Costs in Ohio Could Go Up 80%

DAYTON-- A report released by the Society of Actuaries Tuesday states that insurers will have to pay out an average of 32 percent more for claims on individual health policies under the Affordable Care Act.

The report predicts a majority of states including Ohio will see double-digit increases for people purchasing coverage directly from insurers rather than get coverage through their employers.

The report says by 2017, the estimated increase will be about 80 percent in Ohio. Much of the reason for the higher claims costs is that sicker people are expected to join the pool, the report said.
