DAYTON-- A safe house that protects abused children is getting a new building .
Montgomery County officials broke ground for the new children's advocacy center this afternoon.
It will be an upgrade from the current 100-year old Victorian home. The new CARE House will be handicapped accessible and energy efficient. There will also be more room for families because child abuse cases are on the rise.
"It would be great if we didn't need this building, it would be great if we said, 'We don't need this building,' unfortunately we've had more reported incidents of child abuse in Montgomery County this year than before," said Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck.
The money for the new care house came from community donations. It is expected to open early next year.
