DAYTON -- A new report from 'Today Safe Kids Worldwide' found every eight minutes a child is being rushed to the emergency room for medicine poisoning.

Dayton Children's Hospital says they see kids weekly, if not daily for medicine poisoning.

Lisa Schwing, Trauma Program Manager for Dayton Children's Medical Center says the number is alarming, "not one week goes by, usually not one day goes by where we don't have an admission for an unintentional overdose."

Safe Kids found every minute of every day, a poison control center receives a call about potential medicine poisoning for a child five or under.

Schwing says Children's Tylenol is the most common medicine kids are getting into or given the wrong dosage of.

Some of the most dangerous things in your medicine cabinet include: vitamins, cough medicine, pain killers, dietary supplements, antipsychotic medicine, sedatives and cardiovascular pills.

Schwing says parents know to put medicine up high, but it's the medicine found in couches, purses and on bed stands that kids are finding. Kids are even more vulnerable today because many adult medications are taken once a day, meaning they're stronger and more concentrated.

If your child gets into any medication call poison control at 1-800-222-1222 and if you do rush to the emergency room make sure you bring the medication bottle.

Safe Kids also found that 43% of emergency room visits for medicine poisoning, the child got into medicine belonging to a relative.
