MIAMI TOWNSHIP -- The family of the 20-year-old who was stabbed Sunday night in Miami Township gives ABC 22 reporter Annette Peagler an exclusive interview.
Someone stabbed to death Phillip Ochen at the Knolls Apartments on Knollridge Drive.
Police say Ochen and three other people had apparently set up a drug deal involving marijuana and then tried to rob the two alleged dealers. A fight broke out in the parking lot and Ochen was stabbed.
Investigators say Ochen ran inside to a friend's apartment at the Knolls and someone called 911.
The caller is heard on the 911 recording saying, "We need an ambulance here now because my friend, somebody just broke into our house and they stabbed him in the throat."
Monday night, the Ochen family tells our news team they are still coping with his death and wants people to know Ochen wasn't a troubled boy.
"My son is very funny, my son like to draw art, my son is very, very sweet boy," said Josephine Okeny, Phillip's mother.
His sister, Nivella Ochen, has good memories of her brother.
"He's athletic, he's artistic, you know he's a really good brother, people might say that he was really bad and everything, but not in my eyes," she said.
Ochen graduated from West Carrollton High School after his family moved to Dayton from South Sudan in 2007.
His family said he tried to stay out of trouble.
"He was like more than a brother, he was like my best friend, whoever had information please just come out, " Nivella Ochen stressed.
His mother says he loved to cook and he especially loved the arts. She just wants to see justice for her son.
"My son is gone, I'm never going to see my son again," said Okeny. "I want who take my son's life, I want to see his face in court. I want to ask him why? Why he take my baby life? Why?"
Miami Township detectives have questioned the two alleged drug dealers regarding the deadly stabbing. However, both had been released by Monday afternoon. If you have any information, you're asked to call the Miami Township Police Department at 937-433-2301.
