Local Girl Scouts Receive Top Honors

DAYTON--Some local girl scouts received top honors today.

Only five percent of girl scouts across the nation win the organization's Gold Award.  The award is given to those displaying extreme leadership in their community.

Organizers say girls at any age can receive the award; as long as they're committed to improving the world around them.

"Many girls are in girl scouting for a very long time...anywhere from ten years on, girls a few as five.  But it's taking the experience they've learned so far and  the fundamentals and the promise and the law; they apply to this in their community and their own towns," said Program Services Specialist Carrie Hurley.

Eleven girls from the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio received the award today.
