KETTERING -- A small homemade explosive was detonated Monday afternoon at Fairmont High School.

Kettering Police and Fire were called to the school after reports of what sounded like a gun shot in the athletic parking lot at 12:59 p.m.

The high school resource officer was at the school when it was reported to her. School administrators and the officer said they found a 16.9 ounce water bottle that had exploded in a vacant parking space. The water bottle had a hole in the side and crumpled aluminum foil about two feet away from the explosion.

Kettering Fire Department officials and officers at the scene determined there was not a threat to students.  The water bottle was taken as evidence and the incident currently remains under investigation.

No one was injured during the explosion and no property was damaged.
