Man Flees During Traffic Stop, Leaves Wallet and ID Behind

KETTERING -- A man is behind bars today after police say he fled early Monday, first in a vehicle and then on foot, after a traffic violation.

Kettering Police said an officer tried to pull over the suspect, later identified as Jamichael A. Thompson, 20, of Dayton, for a traffic violation. When the officer approached the vehicle, Thompson fled north on Far Hills Avenue. The pursuit was canceled, however, when the suspect entered the University of Dayton campus area.

The officer then observed the vehcile turn onto Kling Drive, a dead end street. The driver ditched the car, as it was still moving and fled on foot, police said.

The driver was found by UD police and then arrested by Kettering officers. The vehicle had continued through a backyard and into a ravine, coming to rest against a fence, police said.

Police said they also found the suspect's wallet, with his identification inside, which he dropped as he ran from the vehicle.

Thompson is facing charges of Failing to Comply with a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drugs, Drug Paraphernalia, and No Driver’s License.  He is being held in the Kettering Jail and has no bond.
