DAYTON -- Dayton Police say a young man was shot in the stomach in the backyard of a home on Linden Avenue.
Around 3 p.m. on Thursday officers responded to a shooting in the back yard of 78 Linden Avenue. When officers arrived they found a young man shot.
They are working to confirm his age and identity.
Homicide detectives were on scene.
"Every now and then you'll have a break in, but nothing violent," said a neighbor, Seth Tipps.
Witnesses told police someone pulled up in the alley and started shooting into the back yard. The victim, was shot at least once and transported to Miami Valley.
Police say the young man has been given a 50-50 chance. He was in surgery while police remained on scene up until six.
Crime in the Huffman neighborhood has greatly decreased and neighbors say it could be because of a strong faithful presence. With active churches in the community like Father Wayne McNamara with Christ the King Anglican Church.
As of now, no one is in custody.
