GREENVILLE, FAIRBORN -- Dozens of friends and families gathered in Greenville for a candlelight vigil, to remember the 16 lives lost on Darke County roadways.
âMy nephew, Brian Mendenhall was one of the three children that were in the October 27th accidentâ said Mallissa Ginger, Greenville.
He was in high school, killed with two other teenage friends.
âI hope that everybodyâs aware of their children when theyâre letting them drive on the roadways, that theyâre very cautiousâ said Ginger.
Bellbrook is also remembering Sophie Kerrigan, 17, Skyler Kooken, 16, and Julianna Hawk, 14.
The three Bellbrook High School teens were killed in a fatal car crash in Sugar Creek Township in November.
In a show of solidarity, the Fairborn Student Ambassadors handed out purple and gold ribbons, its rival schoolâs colors, to members of the audience before its basketball game against Bellbrook.
âLittle gestures like this can go a long way, in showing that we have their back and itâs going to be okayâ said Lizzie Wilson, Fairborn Student Ambassador.
âWhen I see this it really makes me more cautious about driving and it really affects me too even though I donât know exactly what theyâre going throughâ said Taylor Bocook, Fairborn Student Ambassador.
Its small gestures like the ribbons and the candles, that help the communities of Darke County and Bellbrook pull together to remember those lost on Miami Valley roadways.
