COLUMBUS -- A national
champion show dog that took top honors in obedience at the Westminster
Dog Show several years ago was found dead in his North Columbus home
after it was burglarized by thieves
Owner Pam Estes found her Glen of Imaal Terrier, Shaughnessy, in a pool
of blood with his throat cut open Monday morning when she arrived home
for lunch.
"There was blood all over the house," said Pam through a sign language
interpreter, " I was hoping it was a dream, but it was not."
Eight-year-old Shaughnessy was also a certified therapy dog, and would
visit students at the Columbus School For the Deaf.
Three other dogs in the home were not harmed during the burglary.
The suspects also stole laptops, jewelry, and photos of Shaughnessy,
which were stored in a computer.
"To steal things is one thing," Pam told ABC 6/FOX 28. "To steal a life
is something else."
Columbus Police are investigating the crime. The burglars remain on the
loose.
