MIAMI COUNTY -- Deputies are warning residents of a spike in thefts from vehicles and outbuilding in Staunton, Elizabeth and Bethel townships.
Chef Deputy Dave Duchak says the thefts are happening overnight. Valuables left in vehicles are targeted as are tools, yard equipment and power tools are being taken from outbuildings.
Thefts have occurred on Wildcat Road, Old Staunton Road, U.S. Route 40, Alcony-Conover Road, Gaier Road and State Route 202.
Duchak encourages residents to not leave valuables in vehicles and to use exterior lighting around outbuildings.
Patrols have increased in the targeted area. Detectives also have some leads they are following up on, Duchak said.
