COLUMBUS (AP) -- Democratic convention planners are headed back to Columbus as they zero in on a host city for their 2016 presidential nominating event.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, plans to visit the Ohio capital on Monday to meet with convention organizers and view facilities. A spokeswoman said she plans visits to the two other finalist cities -- Philadelphia and Brooklyn, New York -- later this week.
If Columbus were picked, it would be the first time in U.S. history that two cities in the same state hosted the parties' conventions. Republicans have already selected Cleveland for their convention.
Democrats' convention site could serve as a passing of the baton from President Barack Obama to Hillary Rodham Clinton, the leading contender for the nomination should she run again.
