Foundation Grants Wish for Terminaly Ill Veterans

MORAINE -- They fought for our freedoms and now as their lives draw to a close, a new program is making their dreams come true.

Roger served in the Army and his brother, Gregory, served in the Navy. And they are both now fighting a battle with terminal cancer.

"Just having two brothers battling a very tough disease you want to do everything you can for them," The brother's oncologist Emily Vannorsdall said Wednesday (January 14, 2015).

The Poston's oncologist searched for an organization that could make a lifelong wish come true: a trip to the Grand Canyon.

"I don't know what to expect and that's what makes it even more thrilling," Roger Poston said with a smile.

The Montgomery County Veteran Services and the Dream Foundation teamed up to buy air-fair to Las Vegas, hotel stay at the famed Golden Nugget and a helicopter tour.

"We didn't know if it was going to come through. We've never done this before and just seeing them getting to go with their  whole family because they're just great people to get to know and meet," Vannorsdall added.

"I think I'm going to be thrilled to death and I think people are going to be surprised how much energy I have that I'm not showing now," Roger said.

And they're not going alone. The trip is for five. Roger and Greg's younger siblings are traveling too.

"Just Roger and I were going but we wanted them to come with us so here they come and there we go,"  Gregory added cheerily.

Next week the entire Poston clan will embark on a 4 day adventure out west.

"It's beautiful. There's nothing in this world that we can make that God can't make better. And God's making us a vacation even if he didn't plan it just for us," Roger concluded

Its the stuff dreams are made of.
