CENTERVILLE-- Hundreds of customers will be heading into Morris Home Furnishings and Ashley Home Stores to claim rebates for thousands of dollars-worth of furniture they bought.

It is all part of a promotion the company ran. If someone bought more than $2,000 worth of furniture and Ohio State won the NCAA National Championship by at least seven points, the customer would receive a rebate for their entire purchase.

Jennifer Hale and her husband planned on getting a new bed after Christmas. The one they had been sleeping on was past due for a replacement.

"I had seen the commercials (for the promotion) on TV but I was not planning on, to join the promotion at all. It was just going to be an under $1,000 bed," said hale.

Things changed once the couple was in the store. They decided to go for it and more than doubled the amount of money they were spending.

They picked up a new bed along with a new couch and chair as well as some end tables. And there was a decorative bird that put the family over the $2,000 mark.

The Championship was on a school night so the kids were in bed and Jennifer did not stay up to see the finale between Ohio State and Oregon.

Jennifer’s husband stayed up to watch but Jennifer says he must have hid his excitement because she did not wake up to any screaming or jumping up and down. Jennifer did not find out until the morning after.

"’He (her husband) said guess what?' and I said 'what?' and he said 'Ohio State won!' and then there was a lot of high five'in and holloring and jumping up and down," said hale.

Jennifer says she then picked up the phone to tell the rest of the family the great news. She called her father first.

"My dad because he's a huge Ohio State fan so I let him go on for a little while about the game before I told him what happened and that left him a little bit speechless," said hale.

It wasn't just die-hard OSU fans putting their money on the buckeyes.

"We had a little bit of both to be honest with you. We did have people coming in from Kentucky or Cincinnati who were fans of other teams," said Joshua Render, a Morris Furnishings Showroom Manager.

Render says the promotion created a lot of excitement not only for the customers but also for the employees.

Nearly 500 people signed up for the promotion. We’re told the company will rebate nearly $1.5 million in furniture. Customers also have the option to add 10% to their rebate if they take it in the form of a store credit.
