WASHINGTON -- The United States was hit by a cyber attack from ISIS on Monday, Jan.12, 2015.
Defense officials had to shutdown the Twitter account and YouTube channels for U.S. Central Command after the account's profile were changed and strange messages appeared online.
The tweets threatened U.S. troops and their families and there was a document posted that included the names and addresses of United States military officials along with documents that related to North Korea and China.
"I can tell you this is something we're obviously looking into and something that we take seriously. However a note of caution to folks as they are covering this story. It's a pretty significant difference between what is a large data breach and the hacking of a Twitter account," said White house Secretary John Earnest.
The FBI is assisting the military with the investigation of the hacking. The attack on Central Command comes just as President Obama took to the stage to push for greater cyber security.
