UPDATE: Standoff Suspect Turns Himself in to Police

DAYTON -- A shooting investigation leads to a standoff on the west side of Dayton.  Dayton Police Majors Brian Johns says they have a person in custody, but are only calling him a person of interest as of Thursday night.

Majors Johns says the man of interest was never barricaded inside the home. He turned himself in to police after they called him on his cell phone.  Police say the standoff began after a possible gun fight happened on Oxford and Rosedale Avenue.

The shooting happened around 4 pm on Thursday. A man was shot in the back and we are told is paralyzed. After the shooting, witnesses told police a man ran with a rifle and locked himself inside his house.

SWAT stood outside the home for nearly 4 hours. The man they were looking for turned himself in around 8 p.m.

Police have not released his name, but say he is very cooperative with police.

Major Johns says they always call SWAT of they believe someone is barricaded with a weapon.

"Better safe than sorry for police and the public," he said.

It is unclear if that man in custody has been named a suspect.
