TROY - Miami County is abuzz with the big news of Mumford and Sons coming to town this summer, and the city of Troy is bracing itself for the British Invasion.
A huge music fest, headlined by U.K. band, Mumford and Sons is coming to town August 30th and 31st. The Grammy nominated group picked Troy and just two other cities to tour in the United States for their âGentlemen of the Road Stopoverâ tour.
âWe have a chance to now showcase our little mid-western city of 25,000 in a world marketâ said Mike Beamish, Troy Mayor.
Troy was chosen because of its scenic downtown, the Miami River and its performance venue options.
âItâs awesome that theyâre coming here, so Iâll be hereâ said Tom Fellers, Troy Resident.
The âStopover Tourâ is expected to bring 15,000 to 30,000 people per day, and pump over $12.6 million dollars in to the local economy.
For local business owners like Patty Rose, owner of âLeaf and Vineâ in downtown Troy, sheâs ecstatic.
âItâs going to affect all of our bottom lines, all of the businesses downtown will have a financial impact from this thatâs in a positive wayâ said Patty Rose, Troy Business Owner.
Some hotels are already feeling the economic bump.
âOver 2,000 phone calls for one hotel, I would say Miami County is now sold outâ said Diana Thompson, Miami County Visitor Bureau.
Tickets for the âGentlemen of the Road Tourâ go on sale February 8th at 11am. Two day tickets cost $109 dollars.
