VANDALIA -- A 7 year old Vandalia boy is honored for his quick thinking when his grandmother needed help. Zachary Page's grandma fell down the steps in December and he immediately went to the phone and called 911.
The fire and police dispatcher says the first grader was very calm and helpful on the phone, telling them exactly what happened.
Zachary was honored at school today for his actions. The Vandalia fire chief gave Zachary a medal during a school assembly at Helke Elementary.
''When I saw the firefighters come in,'' Zachary says recalling that day, ''I told them what happened and then they gave her a glass of orange juice, and she's feeling fine now.''
Zachary says he learned about calling 911 for help through a program at school called ''Passport to Safety''.
