Cold Temps Cause Low Attendance for 1st Friday

DAYTON -- First Friday in the Oregon District looked like a ghost town Friday night and it was mainly because of the frigid temperatures.

The first of the month event is usually booming with people packing bars, local art galleries and shops but not Friday night, however one local venue was packed was people who braved the cold weather.

Brim Hat Shop on Fifth Street held a special showcase of a new hat line launched by 15 year old Samantha Hughes and her step mom. Hughes is a Sophomore at Centerville High School. Their company is called  Mae Michael Design.

Hughes said she wishes it wasn't so cold, because she felt her turnout would have been better, if it wasn't or these temperatures.

"I know a couple of people were going to come but couldn't because of the weather, it's no big deal," said Hughes.

Despite the low numbers on First Friday, people like Will Garland who does valet parking, still had to work. Garland put in 8 hours of work outside but he said he was well prepared.

"It's not bad once you get use to it just bundle up, drink coffee it does get cold, it does get cold you really have to worry about your hands and feet the most though," he said.

There is more snow headed to the Miami Valley this weekend so if you do head out please bundle up and drive slow.
