MIAMISBURG -- A woman, a cat and dog have died from a fire in a Case Avenue apartment.
It happened in the 1200 block of Case Avenue.
Neighbors have identified the victim as Jenny Nelson, however the Montgomery County Coroner's Office has not confirmed her identity.
A neighbor, Kevin Bell, reportedly called 911 after smelling smoke, but the Miamisburg Fire Department said the fire was out by the time they arrived.
Dispatcher : "911 what's the address of your emergency?"
Caller: "1207 Case Avenue, Miamisburg, Ohio. My apartment is full of smoke, I'm not sure where it's coming from."
It was still too late to save the woman, who the neighbor said might have recently hurt her leg and was on crutches. The entire neighborhood was left in shock about the news.
"She was a really good neighbor, she would keep to herself, but yet she was like that neighbor that you would love to talk to every day and you'd love to see her and her animals because they were so friendly," said Chassity Tomlinson, a neighbor of Nelson.
"I like her, she's so much like an aunt to me, I miss her already, I went home and started crying because of it," explained James Moore, a neighbor and friend.
There were no working smoke detectors in the apartment and officials have not said what might have caused the fire.
"The investigation will shed light on that I'm sure, but right now we don't have anything as far as what really caused it," said Battalion Chief Jim Baber with the Miamisburg Fire Department.
Neighbors say Nelson had worked at Elder Beerman, but was retired. They say she was a hard worker who never missed a day at work.
"For her to be passing away like this, is horrifying because now I don't even get to talk to her," said Tomlinson.
"She was a really good woman, she was a really good woman," said Moore.
The State Fire Marshal's Office has been called to investigate, but as of right now the cause isn't suspicious.
