DAYTON -- Police say a man who was shot and found hiding in a bath tub under a shower curtain likely was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Dayton Police said they found James O. Mabry II after a family argument, in which several shots were fired. Mabry told police he ran outside with his .22 caliber handgun to see who was shooting.
He said that as he placed his gun in his waistband he accidentally discharged the weapon and shot himself in the leg.
Police and a doctor at Miami Valley Hospital confirmed that the injury appeared to be self-inflicted.
Mabry also told police he had dropped the gun immediately after shooting himself. Police said they found no weapon at the scene. Mabry had no prior weapons under disability charges and was not charged with any crime.
